CAN DRINKING APPLE JUICE DECREASE NEGATIVE BEHAVIORS IN PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA?
WOW! Wouldn't it be great if it were that simple! This small study in the American Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias, published by Sage, and conducted by Ruth Remington, RN, PhD, et al. found a modest, but statistically significant argument for giving people with dementia apple juice to drink (two 4 oz. glasses daily) in that it decreased behaviors such as agitation, anxiety and delusions by approximately 27%. It is to be noted that this was a small study, funded by the apple juice industry, and we certainly cannot claim these results as a cure in any way, but gosh, wouldn't it just be great if by simply giving your loved one apple juice twice a day, they were calmer and had a better quality of life? I say, why not try it. You have nothing to lose and potentially a lot to gain. Good luck--and let me know if you do try it and if you see any differences.
